I’m a general category engineering male, in 2nd sem btech cse in a tier 3 pvt college. College is expensive as hell. My whole first sem just got wasted. I flunked 2 subjects. I didn’t roam, didn’t party, didn’t even properly chill. I tried learning coding but still didn’t actually learn anything solid. No good grades, no coding skills, no fun, nothing. Whole sem went in overthinking, overplanning, procrastinating.
Now 2nd sem has started and I see people roaming in groups and I’m just alone. There’s prom night also happening and I just feel sad and lonely about it. Here most people just run behind looks and hotness and stuff. Majority are immature rich brats who drink and do drugs. I don’t fit in that crowd. I actually want to do something meaningful with my life.
I feel like a complete waste. No gf, no real friends, no gym, no cgpa, no coding skills, no clubs, literally nothing. People go nightclubbing and all that and I don’t even have friends to think about going. I genuinely don’t know what I’m doing.
I make task lists daily and then don’t follow them. I’m very ambitious though, I want a great placement and even publish a research paper during undergrad itself, but right now I feel like I’ve done nothing.

I just wanted worklife balance (9-5 shall do) to do funsies after work. Weak in Quants and Reasoning, I believe 3 years consistency is required for both. Parents prefer State PCS over SSC. My cousin just got into a top IIT whereas I am a tier 3 sarkari college fag doing CSE btech. And obviously my baap isn't happy about that, he's still holding grude over his I fucked jee.
My current CGPA is 7.9 and will be starting with third year. What steps I need to take from this point at atleast compete with my cousin if not fully overtake her. Is this even possible?

I am confident that I have a decent chance of cracking GATE 2026 for cse (at least <500 rank).
But I have heard many people say that it is not worth it. That it would be better to just get a job and upskill, or that pg is only worth it in american/other western unis and mtech in India isnt, even in top institute like iitb, iitm, iisc, etc. Also that pg students dont get prioritised like ug students are, and i wouldnt get the "iit experience" studying here for just 2 years as mtech.
Basically a lot of demoralization. What do you think about all this?
