This is important, so a bit of context. I have been running bharatchan for more than 2 years on. For the most part other than few adverts or anons who donated back in the day i mostly paid out of the pocket. It all began with long back me just wanting a place for our people, it was not driven by any political motive rather just me wanting to learn, experiment and eventually have a place for our people who had nowhere to go. A stepping stone. Over the period of time, bharatchan grew larger. At peak it has served more than 15 million requests in a month, almost a million pages to 2 million page views monthly, 30 to 60 thousands of unique visitors per month. At peak hours it has seen more than 300pphs, i don't recall but it has seen even double of it. Collectively bharatchan in 2 years has seen more than 6 lakhs posts which is highest for any indian imageboard ever. For reference one of the biggest community of India is r/india with 10million subs and it saw 3 lakhs comments few years back based on open source data. As with any community which grows it gets attention of unwanted elements, those who are not aware of the culture of this place, those who are intentionally bad faith. This place is no exceptions, a place which was meant to be a place for Indians enabling discussion and just good experience was casually thrown into political outcry and so on for the most part I believe we have done better job than any previous iterations. It came with accusations like 'censorship' or 'bias about certain political party', i reject all of this solely because the people who are accusing are the same group who have been given countless chance despite that they have actively tried to destroy the place. There are certain religious communities within India - for the most part I tried to ensure that they do not feel alien since it was a place for Indians as a whole but they have time and time again on daily basis targeted hindus, dehumanization of Indians as a whole. There's a reason I have to mention this because they have been a major set of spammers along the topics which are pushed into trash regularly. Many people, i will not name, ddos'd the place, tried dox me, created drama - despite all the available options i didn't bother countering or targeting them and have provided plenty of chance for them to just let's co-exist together without fight. Some of them still use this place on daily, seethe about me which is fine. I am not writing all of this to project that i am better or something or brag it's just an honest note which i want to share before next set of actions. Regarding FOE, truth is it's bad. Twitter was destroyed because in the name of FOE it incentivized the worst group of people imaginable and all the sense of high culture was lost. Elitism, gatekeeping is more important than ever. Filtering is important. Which people will obviously say goes against the whole 'chan' culture. But i disagree. People see 'chan' and get a wrong idea that they have to be deliberately edgy, for the sake of it. Anonymous posting doesn't mean you have to act subhuman nor it's an excuse for us to enable the low quality trash nor I agree with allowing any of this. But how do you define a 'high culture', what are you trying to gatekeep? For the most part we didn't go to this question we just provided the set of things which were not allowed which prevented the race to the bottom aka Religious baits, c@ste baits, porn, gore, dehumanization of Indians or specific types of news. For the most part it served the place well, we sustained for more than 2 years, without major issue. For me bharatchan was a place for Indians, a place for people who had nowhere to go to find a place - a place which would not cost them a mental pain rather a place they can relax, chill and shitpost. You don't have to be serious 24x7, you can be casual and all. But obviously gore, porn, religious issues, c@stes were barred intentionally. You can find twitter and countless platforms for those. In fact it can be a counter culture against all of those - in chan. I always found our culture closer to the east than west, I never imagined this place to be a 4chan lite - you can just go there if you want. I wanted it to have its own identity and culture. People addicted to 4chan culture hence came at crossroads. I just wanted this place to be for those who would share their interests, do things, relax and move on in the life. I didn't want many things like notifications etc. or even anything which promotes addiction. It's important for us to take ownership, anyway at the end a place is as good as the people. Despite relatively 'small' compared to the rest of the Indian communities i feel we had the most diverse set of users, lots of memes, new cultures, new OCs made by anons. It was fun to follow all of these. And I don't have much complain about the anons tbh. Well this is one thing. But at the end, one can't have complete FOE - just from the legality point of view it's not possible. So you try to work with what you got. At the end i paid for it all, i wrote the every code for it - bugs or memory leaks whatever. But i did all of this. I tried to find a balance between FOE and my own biases. But here I am at the crossroads. I didn't write a single line of code on main bhach in a long time. I think hosting is about to go dud too. A miss my old place, where it was just me, small website simple and i would write about random stuff. But it would be dishonest to say that I don't like this place - i love this, but I don't know what to do. Stagnant. And i have a great bunch of guys who tried to help out in mod team, for whatever complain you guys have you should put blame on me for they just followed the limitations they had from my end. And at the end the primary motivation, a place for Indians as a whole. Truly our own. A part of me feels that if I give up - I let those people who attacked Indians, tried to attack this place win cuz I give them what they wanted. And more importantly - should i just leave this project at halfway - I have many things planned which are not out but they are there. But at the other hand is it really worth it all? Why I am doing this? What I am getting from this place. Earlier motivation was - my own small niche blog hidden from eyes and i realized i was so content and happy then. One thing i realize is that bhach has gone beyond my small world, but I still have to pay and have to just overlook it which i hate it all. So I am at conflict now. What to do. I have been thinking of initiating the subscription of sorts - it will take away the monetary headroom at my end. I also wanted to have one final ruleset not from my own set of bias - but suggested by the original group - the current bhach users. So i take myself away from this, the rules and money. I just maintain the place. Akin to a gardner or whatever. Batao sirs.
