XHDATA D-808 DX-ing setup, analogue modulation

Anonymous

IN

No.3223

>be me

>copped the XHDATA D-808 (DSP portable with full SSB + Air band + external antenna jack)

>full kit with battery, pouch, whip antenna etc. for around 10k

>about to pair it with Tecsun AN-48X loop

>serious question: any real analogue modulation / DX-ing chads here?

>proper SSB tuning, chasing AM propagation, MW/LW night skip, Air band listening

>actual portable radio autism, not the I pressed record on SDR zoomers

>how does the D-808 hold up for serious DX?

>real world sensitivity/selectivity?

>best antenna setups or mods you've used with it?

>what are you catching lately? pirates, numbers stations, distant AM anything good?

>propagation tips, favorite frequencies?

>drop your logs or setups if you got em

>will upload pics once it arrives

>analogue modulation chads rise up

>digital tourists seethe

using webSDR you're dependent upon the internet

it defeats the whole purpose of radio

an SDR dongle performs worse than a sensitive receiver radio like the D-808 for Shortwave listening out of the box

it only becomes superior if you pair the dongle with an elaborate outdoor antenna like an active magnetic loop for example

although you can use a magnetic loop antenna with any radio as well it'll give you the same reception

It all depends upon the antenna set up tbh

If you're able to create a professional grade active magnetic loop, you'll be able to catch the most elusive stations regardless of whether you're using a radio or an SDR dongle

what's interesting is that guys like him have been able to catch a lot of international Shortwave broadcasts without using any external antenna at all
