कभी बैठ कर सोचा है कि धर्म या संप्रदाय खड़े कैसे होते हैं? और उससे भी बड़ा सवाल — वो गिरते कैसे हैं? हम अक्सर ये मान लेते हैं कि धर्म आसमान से उतरे होंगे… कोई दिव्य घटना हुई होगी… कोई चमत्कार हुआ होगा… और बस, एक परंपरा शुरू हो गई होगी। लेकिन ज़रा ध्यान से देखो, तो कहानी थोड़ी अलग दिखती है। अक्सर शुरुआत एक शब्द से होती है। एक ऐसा शब्द, जो पहले साधारण था… या बिल्कुल नया था। फिर धीरे-धीरे उस शब्द पर अर्थ चढ़ने लगते हैं। फिर अर्थों पर भावनाएँ चढ़ती हैं। फिर भावनाओं पर आस्था और एक दिन वही शब्द पहचान बन जाता है। सोचो — “भगवान” शब्द अपने आप में क्या है? सिर्फ पाँच अक्षर। लेकिन इन पाँच अक्षरों के पीछे कितनी कहानियाँ, कितनी किताबें, कितनी व्याख्याएँ, कितनी भावनाएँ जुड़ी हुई हैं। इसी तरह “अल्लाह”… “पैगंबर”… “मोक्ष”… “ध्यान”… “समाधि”… शब्द पहले आते हैं। फिर उनके चारों ओर कथाएँ बुनी जाती हैं। फिर उन कथाओं को पवित्र घोषित कर दिया जाता है। धीरे-धीरे वो शब्द इतना शक्तिशाली हो जाता है कि लोग उसके लिए मरने-मारने को तैयार हो जाते हैं। इतिहास उठाकर देख लो। भगवद गीता, कुरआन, बाइबिल — ये किताबें अपने आप में कागज़ और स्याही हैं। लेकिन जब इन्हें “अंतिम सत्य” घोषित कर दिया गया, तब इनके इर्द-गिर्द सभ्यताएँ खड़ी हो गईं। अब ज़रा एक साधारण उदाहरण लो। मान लो किसी गाँव में एक साधु आया। उसने लोगों से कहा — “शांति ही परम सत्य है” लोगों को उसकी बात अच्छी लगी।कुछ लोग उसके साथ जुड़ गए। उसने शांति पर बातें कीं, फिर शांति का एक तरीका बताया, फिर उस तरीके के नियम बने, फिर नियमों को तोड़ना पाप बन गया, फिर उस साधु की तस्वीर मंदिर में लग गई, फिर उसके शब्द “वचन” बन गए और सौ साल बाद वही “साधु का रास्ता” एक संप्रदाय बन गया। ️ शुरुआत सिर्फ एक विचार था। अंत में पहचान, झंडा, संगठन और सत्ता बन गई अब दूसरी तरफ़ देखो — धर्म बर्बाद कैसे होते हैं? जब शब्द बच जाता है, लेकिन अनुभव मर जाता है। जब “ध्यान” शब्द तो चलता रहता है, लेकिन कोई सच में शांत बैठना नहीं चाहता। जब “भगवान” का नाम तो लिया जाता है, लेकिन भीतर करुणा नहीं होती। जब “धर्म” की रक्षा के नाम पर हिंसा होने लगे — समझ लो आत्मा जा चुकी है, खोल बचा है। असल में धर्म तब खड़े होते हैं जब अनुभव ताज़ा होता है और तब टूटते हैं जब अनुभव की जगह संगठन ले लेता है। तुम खुद सोचो — अगर किसी इंसान को कभी भीतर शांति का अनुभव ही न हुआ हो, तो उसके लिए “समाधि” सिर्फ एक शब्द है। वो उस शब्द पर बहस कर सकता है, लड़ सकता है, किताबें लिख सकता है — लेकिन अनुभव? शायद कभी नहीं। कभी-कभी मुझे लगता है समस्या शब्दों में नहीं है… समस्या हमारी आदत में है — शब्द को पकड़ लेने की। हम “नाम” पकड़ लेते हैं, “भाव” खो देते हैं। हम “लेबल” पकड़ लेते हैं, “सत्य” खो देते है और फिर वही लेबल हमारी पहचान बन जाता है। सच पूछो तो धर्म खड़े होते हैं शब्दों से, लेकिन टिकते हैं अनुभव से और जब अनुभव चला जाता है, तो शब्द खोखले हो जाते हैं। जैसे खाली डिब्बा — ऊपर से चमकीला, अंदर से खाली। इसका मतलब ये नहीं कि सब कुछ झूठ है। इसका मतलब बस इतना है कि अगर हम शब्द के पीछे भागेंगे, तो शायद हाथ कुछ नहीं आएगा लेकिन अगर हम अनुभव खोजेंगे — तो शब्द की ज़रूरत ही नहीं पड़ेगी। शायद असली सवाल ये नहीं है कि धर्म कैसे बने। असली सवाल ये है — क्या हम शब्दों से आगे जाकर खुद देखने की हिम्मत रखते हैं? बाक़ी तो हर गाँव में इतिहास गवाह है — कि अचानक किसी सुबह कहीं पर शिवलिंग निकलने की बात उठती है और जो पत्थर कोई अपने घर लाना भी पसंद नहीं करता , वही पत्थर भगवान हो जाता है ।
