humans are on the edge of extinction

yaaro, we might all be dead in the next few decades, and we’re over here arguing about religious/(indian) bs kek. so i read this article by this guy named kerry connelly, and it's called the scientific case for near-term human extinction (nthe). basically, it’s saying that we’re pushing the earth past limits we can’t come back from. here’s the gist:

>climate change is speeding up:

we’re already in way over our heads. scientists have been saying for years that we're heating up the planet, but the article says the pace is way faster than expected. like, the earth is changing faster than it should (what should have taken millions of years is happening in a few hundred years). this is basically putting us at the edge of irreversible climate damage. it’s not just the weather (it’s everything). higher temps, extreme weather, melting ice, and all of that is leading to even bigger problems down the line, like famines, water shortages, and rising sea levels. [you can read up on climate data here: https://climate.nasa.gov/vital-signs/global-temperature/?intent=121 and https://www.worldbank.org/en/topic/climatechange]

>pollution is everywhere and we’ve already poisoned the planet:

microplastics? yeah, they’re in our bodies now. seriously. we’re literally eating and drinking the stuff, and it’s in the air, water, everything. this isn’t some distant issue either. the earth’s ecosystems are collapsing. pollution’s spread is so widespread that it’s pretty much everywhere, and we don’t have the technology or willpower to fix it fast enough. [you can check this: https://www.nationalgeographic.com/environment/article/plastic-pollution]

>ai and tech are ticking time bombs:

if we don’t get a grip on AI, we’re in for serious trouble. we’re creating machines that can outsmart us, and if we don’t regulate them, they could end up causing even more harm than good. think about it: ai in the wrong hands could destroy everything. [there’s a growing concern about this: https://www.un.org/en/global-issues/artificial-intelligence]

>we could collapse suddenly kekda:

we’ve built this fragile system where everything is dependent on things like power grids, food distribution, and supply chains. and these systems are super vulnerable. the article argues that the collapse could be abrupt, not gradual. imagine a power grid failure that just shuts everything down, or a food supply chain breakdown. we wouldn’t be able to recover from it. [take a look at some of the risks in tech systems here: https://airisk.mit.edu/]

so yeah, while we’re out here arguing about (indian) and religion, we might not have much time left to fix any of it. the world is literally in danger, and it’s getting worse. we should be thinking about how to stop climate change, prevent tech disasters, and fix the environment instead of going at each other’s throats over pointless stuff. what’s the point of winning an argument when we might be dead in 10 years? kek

when these temperatures become consistent and widespread across the globe on the exponential road to 10°C, we will see an explosive rise in the area of the planet’s surface that is unsurvivable by humans[https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2017/07/climate-change-earth-too-hot-for-humans.html].
