My thoughts on the ending of Death Note

I just finish watching Death Note 5 minutes ago and I'm still in tears. That was the most beautifully sad ending I have ever seen. The tension in the episodes before that was so intense... then the ending scene... :,(. So to cope with the loss of one of my most beloved characters in anime I decided to write my thoughts. Feel free to post your own response or thoughts too.
I hated Kira/Light's ideal new world but I found that I was always rooting for him to win. I loved L's and N's views but always wanted them to lose (was super happy when L was killed). N really pissed me off at the end >:(. The anger I felt when N started doing the "parlor scene" was equal to that of 9001 honey badgers. That last bit where Light was running really hit me hard, like watching a bowling ball roll into the gutter at the last set of a perfect game, or before that when he said "What do I do now?" after being shot by Motsuda. But I really admire Light's determination, he never gave up, sure It might be true that he was a psychopath but the last season of Dexter (however bad it was) proposed that being a psychopath was not a bad thing. I was somewhat mad at Ryuk for killing Light but that was more or less impersonal. Look at me, I'm just mad at everyone. Of course Light did do a number of things that made me uncomfortable: Ray Pember and his Fiance, Misa and Takada, his father, Rem, and a few others that he screwed over but I always sided with Light because he never did it with bad intentions. He always was thinking of his Utopia. Kind of reminds me of Hitler now that I think about it. But I digress (this isn't /b/ anyway), my tears have dried and now it's time to move on to the next anime for me to consume. Fuck I hate this feeling of sadness.

I once said it earlier and I still say it today. Death Note is the single greatest 10/10 anime
Anime as a genre starts and ends with Death Note
Maybe a few more anime here and there, and you won't ever need to watch this medium again. Everything else is regurgitate slop trying to mimic a fraction of power and storytelling that Death Note left 20 years ago
All the "animeboos" you find continue watching anime in hopes they'll stumble across the next Death Note in their lifetime
This is why I left anime

I haven't watched death note in almost 8-9 years, so my memory isn't totally accurate, but from what I remember later half, after L died, was generally shit. That's not because L was a particularly good character; he just represented a very good obstacle to Light far more so than all the others combined.
I don't think death note was supposed to represent any particular philosophy all that well. It's more a set up for the cat and mouse games between Light and the rest. This isn't a demerit to it, there is no shame in simply trying to be an entertaining triller. But the people trying to any deeper ideology to the cast always comes off as projecting.

Same. I guess if you watched it when you were a kid (like OP) it stood out as really novel and deep. I had a schoolmate who would spam the fucking light writing gif on discord, whose now doing design Kek.
