Because in most metros a good chunk of Khatris/Aroras don't even know they are Khatri. They just call themselves Punjabi or Punjabi Khatri at max.
Most of the Khatris were based in Western Punjab (Pakistani Punjabi) partition really did a number on identity and culture of ours, especially those who settled in urban areas.
