According to "my personal observation"
We did lose at least 3 jets, but not 5 or 6, one of which was a Rafale.
Pakistan also lost an AEW&C and an F-16 or JF-17 while they were parked in a hangar for sure.
Some reports also suggest that PAF also lost another AEW&C and an unknown jet in the air, but they're unconfirmed.

So by my account only a Rafale and Mirage were lost. I am yet to see any wreckage of Mig or Su30 from that day. Also I was unsure of this because these russian jets have had lots of accidents in the past and very easy to fake their wreckage from previous crashes.

Rafale crash was not a hard kill. It crashed far away from strike point in bhatinda. Most probably it had a missile blast in proximity of exhaust (after being jammed) or hit the towed decoy whose fragments had damaged the exhaust. Dassault CEO confirms the part of technical failure at high altitude

Most likely reason was a handshake deal between paf and iaf that until or unless they violate each others airspace with intent to do actual damage they would just spam bvrs from beyond max range to act as deterrent.
