This is one thing i ahve always thought about... Isnt money kinda inefficient?
Like lets assume there exists a world where humans are very well coordinated like ants or wolves. In that case, we wouldnt need money because everybody would just do their job, which means everybodys needs would be met. A family is basically the small scale version of this. In human societies where very individual has their own wants however, we cannot trust others to work properly or even if he does, we will benefit from it. But this can be fixed by treating freeloading like a crime and punishing it mercilessly. Wolves do this by biting or even expelling freeloaders from their packs.
Therefore, we have to exchange our goods/services with theirs in real time, through inefficient (barter) or efficient (money) ways in order to be sure. But even the "efficient way" money has its issues. Since exchanging in real time is just not possible most of the time, we postpone this transfer of money to the future which is debt. So basically, the entire economy is doomed to run on debt if we use money. This obviously isnt sustainable nor efficient, that is why our global debt has ballooned to like 300 trillion dollars and still grows. There are many other issues too, which i wont be mentioning because this post is already too long.
So why not coordinate optimally like ants, or different organs of a body instead of using this inefficient system? The internet, computers, ai and other modern tech would make this easy

That'd require absolute totalitarianism and 24/7 uninterrupted surveillance of all humans. Would be peak efficient society tho, it'll be very hard to achieve in scenario where people have had even a slight taste of freedom, only possible if you build a time machine and go back in time to lead an Aryan tribe.

You can't construct buildings, power houses, or cook food with internet, computers, AI or modern tech.
Money is debt. Money is eventually a virtual currency. Numbers that are stored in spreadsheets somewhere in RBI or some private bank. There's only a limited number of paper notes that are circulated out there. Read it. It says "I PROMISE to pay the bearer a sum of blah blah blah" signed by the governor. It's just a pinky promise. And that's what money operates on - faith, belief, promise.

Not necessarily. Just like people today work because they would starve otherwise (this happens automatically without surveillance), we just need a similar system

Source? Money is a relatively recent thing. Humans in most of our history just did their job (which is what the caste system is)

Let's say you want to start a sheep industry. You need sheeps, land, food, etc. etc. How would you start it?
You need to go to banks and ask for loan, and banks will give you loan in the BELIEF that you will pay it back (with interest of course). You as a sheep owner also have to believe that your business will be successful and by the end of the year you will make enough money to pay back the interest and finally the loan. You have to believe that the weather will work out fine, there will be a demand for the sheep, the wool, the meat, etc. etc.
If money is the flow of electrons, then debt is the potential difference. Without debt, there will be no flow of money.

Who's to make sure the guys are doing their job and hence get their part of the meal? Total surveillance will be needed, besides it's not like it's a bad thing, quite on the contrary in fact, totalitarianism is based.
