They were writing in leaves so they had to make round shapes and curved lines because if you make a straight on the leaf it tears specially if you make it quickly. Hence curved lines.
North lundians were writing in tree bark which is hard and doesn't tear or break easily so you can make straight lines on it hence hindi alphabet has straight lines
