They would have been Hindus or atleast their native religious people rather than xtian had nehru not stopped sadhu and hindu institutions from entering north east in the name of preserving their native religious practices while allowing christian missionaries to enter and preach without any restrictions.

Also US is far bigger threat to india than china is. China isnt as expansionist or has imperialistic ambitions as western fearmongers like us to believe. They just want taiwan and are happy in their historical civilisational space. Even our dispute with them over aksai chin is a result of arbitrary mcmohan line drawn by the british. Not to say they wont take any advantage whatsoever of our weakness but US is the real deal not china.

Yeah they are racially closer to chinese than indo aryans but race is so large of a grouping that it is mostly irrelevant in reality. Tibetans hate chinese. East asians hate each other. Indians hate pakis. Iranians and arabs look very similar to us but they are too distant and are like any other foreigners.

They want aksai chin because it connects xinjiang to tibet. It is no man's land otherwise. They have no expansionist ambitions. Their claim over arunachal pradesh is just a counterweight to our claim over aksai chin. They dont take it seriously themselves. In fact, chinese offered indian govt. to relinquish claim over AP in exchange of india relinquishing claim over aksai. The entire dispute over aksai chin arose because british drew the line arbitrarily and chinese werent consulted so they didnt recognise it as legitimate border like we did. Even in 1962 war, nehru's 'forward policy' an act of aggression was what triggered the war.

NE really get insane amount of money from the GoI, few people in India understand this.
It's actually so much that many NE can leave India and go live in the UK with that money.
They also don't have any incentive to develop the region industrially.
They are basically just a rural tourist region which will stay like that.
