What's the appeal?

>1 million+ competitors

>allows 6 goddamn attempts until you're in your fucking 30s

>extremely low chance to get a good rank even if you're under quota that only marginally increases every year

>you're half a decade past your prime if you do get a good rank

>promoted by gareebjeets, politicians and babus themselves, youth gets influenced by them cause no critical thinking skills

Why would any logical person want to do this? For the low class pajeets who say "saar afsar banna hai" I get it, they aren't really human beings with their own thoughts and opinions and do whatever their family tells them. But what's the reason for the rest to do this? Especially if you're in general? Seems extremely grueling and depressing

It has a low barrier for entry. Literally anyone who has a bachelor's degree can give it. Nobody there cares what you did before

After becoming IAS, you get power over an entire area(except politicians). People worship you just for existing. Everyone wants to give their daughter to you. Everyone sends you gifts. you get special concessions everywhere. You have secured your family's future in a third world country

Almost same with IPS. You're treated as a mini-god in shithole india

Also they're the only pathways for specialised jobs like IFS for diplomacy/IR and IPS for intelligence/investigation

You could this about anything else. Why do millions aim for jee/neet/cat and a gorilion other meme exams? Because there's no social mobility in lundia and this is the only chance you get to secure your and your family's future. The entire country is driven by scarcity mindset. Trying to chase prosperity and desperately hold onto it till they're dead.

State PCS is worse. It entirely runs on bribes. Papers get leaked. No accountability and infrequent exam notifications.

Potential for very high lifestyle and social rank jump. You crack it and you get cushy job with perks and see massive boost in you and your family's living standards and social rank.

All these exams exist to give an illusion of equal opportunity and meritocracy (and they arent even that when you take reservations into account). Such positions were always meant to be hereditary. They are few and rare and you have far more qualified people so you come up with these exams that have nothing to do with job to select people while giving an illusion of equal opportunity. If you are good at examceling combined with some luck in subjective papers and interviews you get the job.

It is an imperfect system that was devised as an alternative for hereditary selection. They were inspired from Chinese imperial services exams which the Chinese state used to legitimise their rule through illusion of meritocracy. Many talented chinese aspirants throughout history have wasted away their youth examceling for them. A major advantage of hereditary selection of people is preventing wasting away society's time and energy in unproductive examceling.
