yes alcohol circulates throughout body but it's the level which is cleaning it, which is affected in that case.
i am not advocating either i am just suggesting that if you smoke => your lungs get fucked => they hardly repair themselves and once fucked it's over.
if you drink a lot => liver can get damaged => but it can still recover repair or even be transplanted in worst cases - way better chance in this case than in case of lungs.
