Little Green Bag - George Baker Selection(Little Green Bag)
legendary for being in reservoir dogs, the original title was supposed to be little greenback after a dollar bill. But it was misconstrued as 'little green bag' and they went with it.

Its a very good song, with a great rhythm section. That intro was played with the mellotron fripp sold to the band from the first KC lineup.

Thick as a brick part 1 - Jethro Tull(Thick as a brick)
supposedly a parody of overtly-long prog songs, its quite good by itself. The flute again is marvellous.

not yet.
A lot of prog is downstream from jazz it seems. Even Jethro Tul. 'Stand In' sounds sounds a bit like cal tjader's jazz :

It sounds quite good, but the singer is indeed rather whiny. The juxtaposition here seems to be the whineyness between the optimistic(?) music.

Kick fuckin' ass rocknroll, wow the Tull can really drive it home. Good recs.
On the topic of driving rhythms,
I was watching some interviews of the frontman, interesting guy.

sounds a bit like staying alive at the start. I've begun to understand the most important aspect of vocals is to drive 'variation' in a song. This is most clear in hip-hop where a beat might remain static but its permutations with the vocals make the song. Now do vocals drive beats or do beats drive vocals?
also,

I've heard the Mingus rendition of this one, downright apocalyptic
Now, I've hear the names of Blakey, Sonny Rollins etc being mentioned by the guys at Steely Dan who I dig very much, I really should get on and listen academically to these men for the life of me. Or I should let it happen organically when sufficient interest is generated.
>Now do vocals drive beats or do beats drive vocals?
I really believe it is the other way around, there is something primal about rhythm that it warrants an appropriate reaction for singing.
This was largely a good general, i think you should go ahead and make a new one, if you feel like it because I'm out of inspiration lmao
