I don't mind a ramayana movie, but nothing will really top the anime Japan made. Still I will enjoy it none the less.

I do mind. This is being sold as a "bollywood magnum opus" type thing with english international release and all. My biggest fear with this would be the overall reputational damage this would cause. most of these ancient stories have already been adapted/their important parts already converted into tropes. when It comes to the general international or even many indian audience just ramayana movie isnt enough. they want the movie to actually work. this will likely be seen in competition with whatever the latest avengers and the latest bigbudgetsouthindian, the latest hollywoodbigbudget etc and why would you want to look ramayana but again
this and brahmastra not really making a big impact (I have seen many people loving the first movie but i sense 0 hype for a part 2)
my best hope is smarter people than me have thought about this
pic unrelated bhach fix this

>bollywood involved
instant garbage
>actor is 50 year old wheatish skin unkill depicting a young person in 20s with shaval rang
not even true to the original work
>neither authors or writers seem well versed in even ramcharitmanas let alone valmiki ramayana
>obviously too lazy to explore other aspect of story other than the one which has been re-hashed thousands time
>worse it will be lazy brahmastra movie tier slop with urdu hinglish delivery
I hope this bombs.

>. My biggest fear with this would be the overall reputational damage this would cause.
it will because bollywood lazy, dishonest pieces of trashes.
Rajamouli spent decades and has delivered absolute kinos and still doesn't feel confident in starting work on his Mahabharata project and here we have bollywoodiyas with nothing to show for bragging about 'magnum opus'.
Most importantly they themselves lack any devotion to the source material, read this
>After his first visit to India in 1970, he had become more fascinated with the country and paid more than 40 visits, producing many documentary films on India.[1] It was a major turning point when he met Dr. B.B. Lal in 1983, who was a noted archaeologist called the reincarnation of Schliemann in India.[2] Yugo Sako was then producing a television documentary- for the Japanese alone with the permission of the government of India- on Dr. Lal's excavation of "Ramayana Relics" in Shringabelapur near Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh in northern India.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yugo_Sako Do you think bollywoodiyas are even half a bit devoted or autistic about their work? No.
It will fail and i hope it bombs so hard that entire bollywood industry collapses.
Only person who somehow is capable is Rajamouli and obviously he is not going to rehash the same lazy trope hence he is looking for fresh faces, 7 part movie and almost entire decade of his work into it. Bollywoodiyas want to burn any chance for such efforts and bore people before he even attempts his work.

We had the chance to do it, Vishwa Hindu Parishad forbade an animated Ramayana from being made in India, which is why all the Indian talent went to Japan. Probably set Indian animation back by a few decades. You idolatrous pigs can't even do your gods a favour.

Yaaar haandu why don't you quote the part of the Wikipedia article RIGHT AFTER your quote
>The Government agreed initially, but later declined his proposal for a bi-nation collaboration, saying the Ramayana is a very sensitive subject and cannot be portrayed as a cartoon. The Hindu fundamentalist group Vishwa Hindu Parishad protested the depiction of gods and goddesses as cartoon figures, forcing the film to be completed in Japan. The fact that the movie was being made at the height of the Ram Janmabhoomi movement, which culminated in the destruction of the Babri Masjid on December 6, 1992, further axed its chances of an Indian release.

That wikipedia has agenda driven disingenuous edit where they intentionally muddy the details to push the agenda, the original source is correct and same as other anon pointed out.
The source being used is this https://www.hinduismtoday.com/magazine/april-1993/1993-04-ramayana-animated/
From this,
>When producer Yugo Sato went to India in 1984, he was simply toying with the idea of a documentary about Ayodhya, revealing its archeological Hindu historicity.
>The press bungled and said he was doing a new Ramayana. Angered at a foreigner's presumption to intimately handle India's precious jewel, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad protested to the Indian government, demanding an explanation. The government passed the fiery query on to the Japan Embassy, who daintily placed it back in Sako's lap.
This was the protest.
>Ramayana? Good idea! responded a spritely 61-year-old Sako. Better than a documentary.
>A mature and sensitive man with Buddhist/Shinto spiritual ideals in total synch with Rama, Sako flew to India.
>After first clarifying his original movie idea to VHP leaders, he then revealed his new brainstorm – an animated Ramayana, carefully protective of the epic's noble message.
>Animation is a serious art form in Japan and Sako explained it would enhance, not hurt Ram's divine nature, as well as allow the flying scenes to explode in a display of phantasmagoric cinematography.
>The VHP liked what they heard.
VHP was pretty happy with animation.
>But despite Sako's Hanuman-like efforts courting 16 government departments for 4 years, India finally rejected his invitation for a bi-nation collaboration. They said the Ramayana is not a "cartoon" – clearly unaware how sophisticated, and popular, this art form has become in the last 20 years.
It couldn't film or be part of bi-nation collaboration because of the babu and government failure.
That anon is quoting from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yugo_Sako this wiki which has proper details of the events as mentioned here >>961
As always abrahamics and leftists are being disingenuous.
