> be me
> solo traveler, always looking for offbeat places
> hear about a cursed village in Jharkhand
> woman named Rukmini Devi burnt alive by villagers in 2023
> accused of black magic, but turns out it was just a land dispute
> her screams were heard for miles
> no one found her remains, only ashes and bones scattered in the fields
> locals say her spirit never left
> obviously, I decide to visit because I make bad life choices
Day 1
> reach the village in the afternoon
> place feels abandoned, even though people still live here
> houses are intact, but no one is outside
> eerie silence—no birds, no animals, no wind
> go to the only shop to buy water.
> book a room in a rundown guesthouse at the edge of the village
> old lady running the place gives me a worried look
> Yells at me"Lock your door Now"
> weird, but whatever
Night 1
> power cuts out at exactly 1 AM
> wake up to a faint crackling sound
> like wood burning but there’s no fire
> air feels thick like breathing in smoke.
> then I hear it a voice in the wind.
> They burned me… and left me here…
> my body freezes
> it’s not coming from outside—it’s coming from inside the room
> too scared to move, force myself to shut my eyes
> then, suddenly—my bedsheet yanks downward
> jolt up, grab my phone, shine the flashlight around
> nothing there
> door still locked, windows shut
> but… the air still smells like burning flesh
Day 2
> morning, try asking villagers about Rukmini
> everyone refuses to talk.
> one old man finally whispers: She was innocent. We were the cursed ones.
> starts laughing like a retard and he walks away.
> decide to explore the field where she was burned
> grass everywhere… except for one blackened patch
> in the center stands an old tree—completely burnt but still standing
> the soil around it? Still warm.
> take a step closer, feel a wave of dizziness
> for a split second, I swear I hear a scream in the wind
> stumble back, snap a quick photo, and rush back to my room
> check my phone later-captured nothing ,whole pic was black.
Night 2
> force myself to sleep early
> but at 1:37 AM, wake up to knocking on my door.
>three slow knocks
> heart racing—guesthouse is empty, no one else is staying here.
> stay completely silent
> knocking gets louder
> then, a whisper through the keyhole
> They lied. Let me in.
> suddenly, overwhelming smell of smoke fills the room
> feel a burning sensation on my chest
> yank up my shirt—black handprint on my skin
> screw this, I’m leaving
The Escape & The Truth
> grab my bag, run straight to my car
> road out of the village is dark, foggy, barely visible
> glance in the rearview mirror and see something
> a woman in burnt rags standing in the middle of the road
> her face is missing.
> blink once—she’s gone
> reach the next town, heart still racing
> show my chest to a local doctor—the handprint is still there.
> decide to dig deeper into the story
> find an old article online—Rukmini’s case was covered up.
> she wasn’t burned for black magic—she was the village’s scapegoat.
> local leader’s son had killed someone, and they blamed her to protect him
> the entire village knew
>Finally drove myself to death continuously for next 15 hours and finally went out of the state.
>And that mark was finally gone .
