In terms of combat sports MMA is getting more popularity than wrestling in India and only one who actually practices martial arts on a good level wrestling and boxing are Haryanvis but they dont do MMA tbh.

Now many good wrestlers are arriving due to better coaching. Indian wrestlers always had a upper hand in terms of endurance but failed due lack of technical holes which are being filled due to better coaching it seems.
These Dagestanis and Americans wrestle since they are kids and have amazing culture and sports resource. Hard to beat that.
