Sikh Empire failed cause of Ranjit Singh not taking proactive actions against the British and making sure succession rules work. Dogra raj betrayed the Sikh Empire cause by tht time The royal court was little more than cheats and frauds within each other. The last straw was Nau Nihal Singh who was killed by the sikhs

This is the problem with India - every Dogra is synonymous with the Dogra community, individual Sikhs get lumped in with the Sikh identity, individual Marathas get lumped in with the broader Maratha identity. I can attack a couple of treacherous Dogras who objectively collaborated with the Brits and were traitors - you don’t need to take that so personally.

This is simply not true , even before the dogras decided to cause havoc , the Sikh Empire was on a shaky ground. Kushwant singh even says tht Ranjeet singj was pathetic in dealing with British which was a source of trouble.
