Why does medieval europe seem to have better aesthetics in movies and shows than contemporary india? Europe just seems so much better in dresses, environment and art. Wasn't india richer or on equal footing at least back then? Is the portrayal accurate or am i missing something? Picrel is Merchant of Venice movie.

Yes that's the reason. In movies, Indians have better aesthetics too. Jews have whitewashed greek and roman culture. Most of the europe was rebuilt once again post ww2.

Western european gdp per capita only got slightly higher than rest of world 15th century onwards. The difference wasnt that large and only grew massively when industrial revolution began in 18th century.

Its the opposite. Just watch any period drama set in medieval europe then watch some jeet period film like padmavat, jodha akbar, bahubali etc. and you will see the difference. India just seems like a primitive savage land outside of palaces in those movies.

Because it was, and so was most of the world, but pajeet cities weren't much better either, I don't think there was anything as good as Charlemagne's Paris in medieval india

But europe even outside palace seems quite good in those medieval period films. Even peasants seem to be in decent attire. Paved town square looks so good with various shops, bakeries, breweries etc. People walking in nice colourful attire, beautiful feathered caps and sounds of moving horse carts, steps of walkers and ringing of church bells filling the atmosphere. It just feels and seems so much better than jeet period films.
