Did jeetas of the past co-opt bindhi as holy symbol to adorn on the forehead for cosmetic reasons but didn't wish to look or appear shallow in doing so , and to fool the male brain that would've otherwise payed close attention to other facial flaws? I think so and I believe that to also be the case for the usage of nose rings or ear rings or just about any other ornaments worn by women in sensitive areas of the face, sensitive interms of beauty perception as well as it's biological fragility.
