if most don't use incognito then data of unique posters at the homepage might be closer to the truth.
coming to live data it's interesting. ideal connections get removed so it's likely that these are legit say connected instances. maybe there are few which are let's say trash connections but we have internal logic for it which cleans up such connections regularly.
one of the misconceptions anons have that if there's only 20 people active at given time then it means 20 posters in entire day which is not true. different people are active at different times. the aggregate for entire day would be completely different.

another thing is that many likely are using phones and in phones if someone connects and leave the app minimize it would still be a connection active. but it shouldn't be for long and most likely will get removed from the count.

pc posters are even more different they proly have gorillion tabs with bhach and what not open and browser active 24x7.
