I finished Link's Awakening. It got irritating after a point. The dungeons involved so much backtracking and some clues were just outright stupid. Also they tried to incorporate ideas from Twin Peaks but I felt like it just didn't work out. A Link to the Past (4/5) is better than Link's Awakening (3/5).. ALttP had too many optional items that made the game easier + the hints were too obvious. LA had an annoying 2 button inventory system and the hints given were also irritating. If you need to give hints and not do things intuitively to help the player progress the game then the game might as well be garbage in terms of design.

antiquated JRPG's and dungeon crawlers were like that but they were also extremely satisfying to finish because of how much time and mental you had to invest in them
iirc I had to make use of walkthroughs posted online because some puzzles and bosses were a bit too of a skill issue for me back then
if you want more LoZ then you can try Minish Cap its on Game Boy Advance not as good as LttP but it still holds a charm to this day (and you may even like it better than Awakening
