Conquering americas was no big deal and the rewards were immense. It was like walking into empty land. Not an accomplishment. They didnt even discover those lands first, vikings and spanish did.

Spain and portugal did that too but didnt achieve much
Britain became the most powerful empire because they had the first merchant/capitalist ruling class in the world, which is the reason they industrialised first

The chief reason was coal revolution due to accessible coal deposits in britain. 18th century Bengal Subah actually had all the prerequisites for industrialisation except coal. Brits were overproducing steel when colonisation of india began due to use of coal in metallurgy. Fort William in bengal had a million rifles while rest of india didnt have a million rifles. Such was the difference. Another advantage they had was their location as an island that protected them from devastating continental european wars. Utimately these explanations are little more than post hoc rationalisations and unfalsifiable claims but calling britain a tiny island when it conquered india is inaccurate.

In fact, English is not even the original language of Britain.

Orignal language of Britain is Celtic.
Which first became latinized due to Romans invading.
Then was completely replaced by "English"/Anglosaxon , due to Germanics invading .
Then Vikings came and invaded and Elite mixed in nordic words.
Then Normans came and for a while British Elite used to speak French.

Note for how long they spoke completely different languages due to getting colonized permanetnly:
- 43-410 Latinized Celtic
450 - 793 complete replacement with "Anglosaxon/English"
793 - 1066 Anglosaxon + Nordic
1066-1366 If you wanted to become a higher up you had to speak French (compelte replacement)
1366 - "Middle English"
In comparison Indians only speak English for 200-250 years and that also only as a third or fourth language in most cases.
