Why does india lack a proper military industrial complex? India opened up its economy in 1991 but still the private sector participation in defence projects isn't as high as it could be. China protected it's domestic companies from foreign competition but made them fight each to the death toll only the ones that made high tech and better managed companies emerged to avail all kinds of subsidy to scale up fast.
Our babus and dhandos are meanwhile letting doing fuck all while what big thing that comes from India are from small startups.
Companies even use their earning from India to get research from advanced economies.

Because Army is the most corrupt institution which no one talks about. They take bribes and kick-backs from foreign weapon makers and give them contracts sidelining domestic products and underfunding our equipments.
