Trump actually gave up on a deal Iran had made with Iran to give away most of its fissile material, Trump believed that them keeping even some of it is weak and will come to bite them in the ass later on... which is a valid concern. But with them having fallen into an escalation trap he is trying to get a similar deal to show diplomatic progress... I even heard some vets discussing sensing in Airborne and Marines to go look for the dispersed material... do remember the mountains hurt mobility of all ground forces, but only the US have air superiority and large airborne formations.

Iran will stand no chance in a conventional ground war, even in the mountains, US airpower projection ability is too OP... but they could disperse and try to fight a guerilla war, that is what the US is concerned about, it may annihilate them even in that kind of war, but the US public has PTSD from Vietnam and Iraq... they will chimp out even if the US is technically winning with no tactical hope for the Iranians.
