>Meghnad Saha was born on 6 October 1893 to a Bengali Hindu Tili family in the village of Sheoratali in Gazipur, then part of the Dacca district of the Bengal Presidency (now Bangladesh).
>He was the fifth of eight children born to Jagannath Saha, a poor shopkeeper, and his wife, Bhubaneshwari Devi
>Tili is a Bengali Hindu middle-ranking (indian), found in the state of Bihar and West Bengal in India.
>Tili was included in the list of 177 "backward classes" for the state of West Bengal by Mandal Commission, but the state government has not yet recognised them as such, and they still belong to General category
If he was alive today he would belong to General Category kek

Most bengali Shudras are general because CPM refused to include them, OBCs in bengal are mostly Muslims for votebank politics. Teli as was Meghnad Saha is one of the lower (indian)s (just above the absolutely absolute untouchables)
Meghnad saha removed his surname later in life due to (indian) discrimination and he faced (indian) discrimination in life

Literally this, barring the absolute untouchables all bengali shudras and even upper level Avarnas are general due to CPIM politics. SC OBC was largely given to Muslims by CPM towards end of 1990s /early 2000s as a last ditch votebank politics attempt

Scripturally my fisherman (indian) does not have same origin as say of Mumbai or Kerala or Tamil nadu

Wiki is blatantly wrong here then, because I know of only one GC Saha, and I read deeper into meghnad saha history, he was likely even amongst the lower rungs of teli, this thing called Kolu classification about bengali telis. Again, this is something which only someone who is bengali and lived in this society will know.

Scriptures are theoretical stuff. They talk a lot about how an ideal soyciety ought to be such as the idealised varn vyavastha but in reality we have countless autonomous jatis varying in social rank who are just doing their own thing. Brahmins are not a monolith. They differ in ethnogenesis. For example, Kanyakubja/gangetic brahmins have completely independent ethnogenesis separate from saraswat/indus brahmins. Brahmins really are just hindu clergy that arose independently in different societies.
