Nope, current track density is not enough to sustain stupendous rise in trains.
Mumbai metro can offset one chunk, work has sped up under fadnavis. Second local train network needs to be expanded. AC trains should be increased - cuz packing heavily dense trains with doors close will result in indirect casualties probably worse than earlier.
Mumbai needs satellite cities pune should have been developed as such but that's separate.

Do we have anything to see into this matter? Is the train traffic and data available? I can bet an average bhachcels can create a better model than whatever they are using now.

Issue is the peak demand, you can get the number of trains running at a certain time. Track length and density of the mumbai locals.
Average speed of the local trains, frequency can give idea.
