The competition is irrelevant. What matters is whether the colleges are taking in too much people for their capacity to train effectively and completely.

For example, my college takes in 250 MBBS students a year. That is way too much, none of us get any clinical exposure (except for the ones who are good at bootlicking or relatives of the faculty). We know it, the professors know it when their operation theatres are flooded with us, but nothing can be done

To make matters worse, the PG seats are rising too, no way my college can train so much PGs satisfactory.

I am in South India, and the situation is not so bad in the North, but mark my words, this will happen over there in the next decade

Salaries are still very good in northwest India and Delhi though, an MBBS can fetch 1 lakh+ there for now.

People should take care of their health yourself, by paying in private hospitals. It is not govt job to give healthcare. Doctors and nurses should not become wage slaves of the elected politicians.. Doctors dont join govt job as they get better pay outside. Govt should privatise hospitals, and give free healthcare using taxpayer money only to poor, not to others

Our government hospitals are alright but is very underfunded. The wards are overflowing and there are sick lying down on the floor. ICU beds are scarce, and you have to be on the verge of death to get into an ICU.

I might suggest an NHS style universal healthcare, but our government cannot afford it
