I don't think there would be an independence attempt at all. Maybe we become like Canada or Australia, a commonwealth nation that rules independently and maybe declare completely independent.
The independence movement was excaberated in the later years mainly due to overreaction from British as a result of their waning influence.
Honestly that would be the better path and less bloodless path.

America was not some FOE utopia during its early phases, they were purging entire group of people, displacing, killing women and children. Lower class was forced to work in mines etc. away from their native land in pathetic environment, let's not get into slavery aspects. And most importantly they cleared their backyard from any major threat.
India didn't do anything of it. Yet we achieved a lot.
I think people worry about things a lot, needlessly.
Usually we hope for Step 1, 2, 3, as if they are predefined but it's like game - certain events, realities are locked until you clear few roadblocks. It applies to us - we need to advance on each of those stacks and slowly. We are doing that in pretty good manner - everywhere - whole of approach. So that's why it feels a bit of mess but trust the process.

America is very abundant society and yet you see how they start to implode, hate others, suffer with so many internal issues.
India despite such resource scarce is way more stable, people are way more co-operating so on.
Most of the weds morals are like that - result of abundance but just slight tilt away from them you can see their tribal self coming out of the woodwork.
