That explains why my family isn't very religious. The only religious thing we really do is celebrate Eid. My father has a profession that's totally against Islamic teachings. So that's why I've never been forced to go to the mosque or do similar things except on certain occasions during my childhood.

How can someone legally leave Islam in India? What caste would I get if I accepted Hinduism? I could do it, but I don't really care since the whole process seems like a pain. I'd have to change everything, from my CBSE 10th & 12th marksheets to my identity documents, and now that I'm about to graduate, I would need to change my UG documents too. You don't need to convert to Hinduism. Caste and reservation will vanish as well so its pointless worrying about that. But you HAVE to leave Islam. Even if its just a formality.
Just you BEING a muslim in India is contributing to insane security costs that the country can't really afford. Nobody in India gains anything by security forces having to play cat and mouse with Muslims.
Just by having a Muslim name, walking with your "brothers" etc. you are incurring unnecessary costs on the rest of the country (and yourself as well since Muslims profit off infrastructure improvements as well).
And this isn't freebie money, or schemes that go to you "as a muslim". That is just plain security costs.
You could stop this dynamic immediately. Stop being a muslim. Stop going to the mosque. Stop antagonizing Hindus (who are paying feeding your community). Don't identify as a Muslim. Don't give your children muslim names.
That's all. In less than 1 generation India could be muslim free, trillions of Rupees freed up.
Devout muslims will never change, and they need to be killed. And they will be eventually.
If you are not a devout muslim, you must leave Islam.
Your ancestors converted to it, that means you have the ability leave it.

All muslims who dislike or are indifferent to religion should marry their daughters and sisters to non-muslims and teach their sons to not marry at all or even if they marry then make sure they marry a UC religious muslim female and turn her irreligious after marriage by making her liberal and tell them to not have more than 1 kid.
This would require no official conversion and nor will it attract the ire of any relatives.
