Russia x china nexus, china x india nexus then usa x china nexus. And then whole India being a major locus in southern section of asia and collaborating as a strong partner in central asia with Russia to counter the american influence.
Lots of factors. In many cases, russia acts like a dormant neutral ground and many a times facilitator for dialogue between India and china because India and china going for war is bad, it will directly push India in the arms of USA.
Russia also prefers to collaborate with India to contain influence of china, it can't match china but with India it can maintain its own share of hegemony.
India can benefit by technological transfer, P5 voting, geopolitical heft, resources from Russia and a major backer in general.
