Starlink question and how it is threat to India

Many people have been saying don't allow starlink it's threat to India. But they don't elaborate how.

See in general starlink system has three major parts,

>satellite constellation

>ground stations

>receiving dishes

New generation of starlink satellite can cover large regions without the need of ground stations by using the laser link to transfer data packet from one satellite to another.

The thing that worries local government is that, now they have no longer control on the digital space other than USA. Starlink may cooperate or not. Another worry is from security standpoint.

Here's how, currently if starlink system is banned or inactive, even if someone gets hands on them they will if transmit the data to the starlink satellites it will cause a pulsing of RF beams. A sophisticated military device can detect this. So it's easier to find out the general region where starlink has been used down to the accuracy of few meters. In fact Indian agencies regularly use similar tech to zero in on the terrorists using satellite phones, including during the operation Mahadev. In summary, this is like imagine entire city is dark and you see flashes of light it makes easier to identify the origin of the flashlight.

What happens when you allow starlilnk? Now out of a sudden the entire land is saturated with the transponders, recieving and sending the signal. Now it would be like thousands of flashlights in the region you will need more information to identify which is what. This is why allowing starlink is an issue, it provides cover to those who may be using it for nefarious means.

In Iran exactly this has happened, they first created a dark zone, now starlink devices were beaming the data, the equipment provided by russians and chinese helped the authorities to zero in and do the needful to the culprits.

Future threat is that since starlink is a military project, we will see the system getting miniaturized to the point it is by default available on every phone. So still people would be able to use starlink system 'illegally' and space x can allow those operations and provide a cover.

On caveat though, it's not completely dark radio frequency wise but it should be possible for most military systems to identify the source.
