Even if it involves manufacturing in India (only 30% localisation btw) , theres no way a rafale jet can cost more than 300 million dollars. Even the cost of F22 and F35 is less than that. Paying 300 million for rafale is like paying 3 lakh rupees for a Honda Activa. It just isn't worth the money. You don't need to be an aviation expert to know a rafale isn't worth 300 million. What most probably happened is the Dassault knows IAF is in a desperate situation and won't but US jets (too many strings attached) and won't buy Russian jets (CAATSA). So they milked the deal as much as possible to bankroll their own 5th/6th gen program. Indians got ripped off again. All the best to the IAF. May they be happy with they shiny new french toys.

Rafale was not meant for the purpose we are acquiring it for. Plus its an inferior jet which doesn't stand a chance against J-20 or future chinese projects.
