some baniyas are obc i think but most are UC. baniyas are pro uc in general because UCs are progressive and create environment where it's better to do business.
for example, baniyas hated mulla mulayam raaj due to the whole gundagardi in their time leading to closing of business, hafta wasooli so on. bjp and mayawati were preferred due to their control over law and order and dominant groups like yadavs / muslims in up.
in gujarat there's also similar situation but in general bjp had business friendly policies. time wasted on seething others could be better utilized by selling stuff it's simple rule.
