PFM-1s are a Soviet era relic that is still effective, these small mines are barely the size of a small penis yet will maim you if you step on one. They aren't meant to kill, just make you a liability to everyone else and act as a mission kill for infantry. Can be deployed in mass from Grads and VSM-1s.

We should build something similar, just airdrop shit loads of these in the Naxal and K2A pest infected forests, us going in for combing ops is tedious and takes a lot of time and risk. Let them stay their paranoid of every step blowing their leg off for them to die bleeding in pain.

Being mounted is still better yaar, tho it depends on the tech, if you can't be pierced you are practically invincible, ask the Abrams crews in the Iraq war. They had a grand total of five casualties to mounted tank crews in the entire conflict, also those were from overpressure than being pierced.
Ukraine is a hellhole because both can pierce each other with ATGMs and be detected quickly to have drones which are effectively flying mortars. Tho tech is catching up, several countries have already deployed APSs that intercept ATGMs with a 95% chance. Some systems work for drones too, while the US and French-German demonstrators have often featured airburst sentries.

Also, these are especially good for that purpose because once deployed they can't just pick em up to use em against us, even a touch sets these off as the entire body is a sensor. Whereas in trad anti-personnel mines you can often just pick and up from the base. And they are made out of plastic so can be easily mass manufactured. Some variants also have a self-destruct timer so you can disable them after you've occupied the region.
