Even China didn't start exporting it's own designed products at our GDP per capita level. The figure I've heard is 4000-5000$ dollar at which range they started making their own stuff for the world. Lenovo is the only real expection, otherwise it's giaints only came out later.

GDP per capita will probably hit 15,000 before you are 40. At that point, even if it's still low, the aggregate size of the economy is large enough that you will see globally competitive indian companies. Hell, you're already seeing some emerge in second and third world countries, like Mahindra's car doing surprisingly well.
