We balance our hedge (so does china) to keep junta and then both equally on side. But it's obvious to everyone now, the junta is here to stay and the rebels will slowly fizzle out.

It is nothing new btw, Westerners have been doing this for long, perhaps the recent arrests are a result of recent US statements on India or even can be something us civilians don't know about? What is certain is our guys have known of this for long but didn't take action beyond passive measures probably to not anger America or bring a confrontation. I'm afraid these guys will end up walking free, it has happened before.

Basically, my view is that the rebels are slowly realising that they can't win, so burma as a state won't exist but the junta will remain the biggest force and slowly take land based on rebels growing more and more weak as they lose international influence
