The word "terrorist" has no fixed meaning, it is just a dehumanized word used to label enemies. No one used this world as they do today until the US was attacked in 9/11 and then started spamming terrorist to create a national will against their enemies. That definition is more it, but the word is often given other more vague definitions in the mainstream.
Tho I've seen insurgents being called terrorists even when they don't necessarily kill civilians. It is just a buzz word.
I like the definition of any state or non-state actor using whatever methods to instill terror and shock in their enemy's populous. I think that is a better definition, and includes large scale strategic bombing on civilian areas too.

Anyway, Sikhism is actually one of many bhakti traditions. It is built on works of preceding bhakti poet saints. It has very little influence of islam if any. In fact, sikhs were among the biggest victims of islamic persecution as they were defiant in propagating the faith.
