Many have this misconception sari was native hindu dress and salwar kameez was brought by muslims.

The truth is

>Sari was uncommon up north due to climate(dry winters and summers). Ghagra(petticoat) Choli(blouse) was worn along with dupatta(derived from uttaraya of vedic period) there.
