I thought EU retaliated.

check this
>The effort, which brought up to 1.5 million of Apple’s flagship smartphones into the country, came after the company ceased productions in India to overcome President Donald Trump’s tariffs, Reuters reported Thursday (April 10), citing sources familiar with Apple’s plans.
>Apple has reportedly flown 600 tons of iPhones into the U.S. in an anti-tariff measure.
I mean it's related to tariff but they do want China + 1 one or maybe we can say USA + 1 strategy so we will be there.

EU said they would; hadn't yet.
Ultimately no matter how much the stars allign for us internationally or how much money we throw at PLI, the twin hurdles of corrupt and inefficient babus and poor infrastructure will hold us back. If Vietnam also gets a good deal, I don't India will make it.

If Vietnam ngmi, neither will we. Their economy is much more balanced - incorporating low skill manufacturing along with a slow crawl towards walking up the supply chain and strong educational system to later innovate and create their IP and technology. Most important of all, Vietnam is politically more stable - one dominant ethnicity, language, relegion, culture etc. It's the recipe for success with the east asian export led development model.

I will check it out.
My opinion was based on few things like their over reliance on manufacturing export, like out of 354 billion usd manufacturing export is around $328billion usd. It contributes around quarter to their gdp.
Most of their supply chain is highly dependent and rebadges chinese which means USA seems them as China trying to route their export via third party.
In case of India, manufacturing makes up 14% for our gdp contribution.
Though there's a concern about 'low' manufacturing - focus here is more about dependence on external export versus internal consumption. Vietnam can't sustain about exports. India is too big and diversified interests.

The only problem Vietnam has is that it's overrelaint on one country - usa. But thing is, every country with a trade surplus today relies on US consoomers. It's why orange man's tarrif is so impactful.
Exports as the main focus of the economy is actually very good because it forces companies to face global competition - first at price, then at quality.
India, with a domestic focus industry, means that big players have very little intiative to compete when govt gives them protection anyway.
And like I said, poltical side can't be forgotten. Vietnam will face anything like a farmer reolvt or caste kanging demand for reservation like we do.

I do not disagree sirs. Just different interpretation on few aspects.
Agree about reforms, political side etc. And also about domestic industry in india which is shielded - like automobiles in india to an extent ig.
>lego plant in vietnam
read about it was wondering since we already have PLI in toy manufacturing maybe we should have tried something at our end. Shows how good vietnam is.
