Why did post independence India saw a decline in its Topi/Hat culture?
Ofcourse there are some obvious answers like people only wear their religious and regional traditional clothes only during festivals, wedding and other auspicious events. Other reason being migration to big cities and towns and so to assimilate better in these places.
Bihar has Paag, Pahadis have Pahadi topi, Marathis have Pheta, Rajasthanis have Safa pagdi, Sindhis have Ajrak topi, etc.
In this video which shows Delhi in 1914 every person is wearing a headgear.

Anyway it seems more of a modernity thing reducing it to mere just presentation for particular case.

Perhaps most people of the succeeding generation don't want to faff around with hats.

Tight headgear seems like a huge no no. Even wearing my helmet makes me sweat balls.
