MA English dropout. Average Edtech skills. Currently in complete burnout. Thinking to devote my life to either chasing SSC or State PCS? What would you do in my situation? My myopia grows worse.
I just wanted worklife balance (9-5 shall do) to do funsies after work. Weak in Quants and Reasoning, I believe 3 years consistency is required for both. Parents prefer State PCS over SSC. Don't even have energy to protest after wasting time, energy and resources over MA+ upskilling into changing industry/ career meme. I shouldn't have appeared for CUET PG months prior too. Regretful. Share me some lifeline pyaaro.

also, have you considered creating a portfolio to apply to universities like US, Aus etc. for PhD? It is longer than MA yes but a) you get paid, and b) there are more opportunities for an English grad in firstie cunts than India.

It's brutal under NEP. And my stupidity cost me cause I was under a regular program too. Can't raise ze GPA without reappearing for several exams. I was also focussing on soft skills that I was lacking. If I stayed another sem, I was sure to be the bottom feeder. Flunked the first sem, skipped half the exams after a severe mental collapse. Started physical exercises again. Resting at home and coping. A month has passed since.
It's going to be the same everywhere unless you can excell in your niche. ROI matters, half-hearted actions won't do and I'm afraid of further commitments into academia. Learned the hard way.

You're talking about MA right? You can apply for PhD right after bachelors in the US/Canada/UK. If your gpa was great you can even bag a top 50 and a hefty stipend. All you gotta do is research into a few options

3 year program UG(last batch). 2 year could've been PG. I was earning in peanuts from Content Writing during UG at the cost of GPA. (<7)
I tried to pivot into Technical Writing but AI is making sure to not even allow me to land any entry level job so I quit before it was too late. Tried cold mailing, initially, got a startup interested but got ghosted eventually.
I was never into research and publications but I think I've a knack for it when I'm not trying to meet deadlines. I suppose I'll also need letter of recommendations+ proposal ready. I took advice from someone who returned after MA English, from UK (Newcastle) and he was also left disillusioned. He didn't have any scholarship line up for him. He was working part time while studying. Study abroad is a meme for anyone outside STEM and other disciplines, it's always the excellent/ outstanding scholars. I've been average in everything I do. Thanks for hearing me out, at least.

complete opposite of me, i am into research but i can't do anything unless I have to cram before a deadline

literal bhangi tier collez in middle of nowhere. Don't fall for the masters meme yaar, only go for masters if it is funded by the university (or scholarships). The only real way to ascend is if you go for PhD
Look at this: https://careers.bcg.com/global/en/on-campus/programs/advanced-bridge-to-bcg
If you have a PhD (or are in last year) you can apply for this, they will train you and subsequently hire you in their main offices. Unrelated but why do you want to study English at postgrad level anyway? I know 2 people that did BA (Hons) English, one is unemployed at 24 and the other is now studying economics at postgrad level

Which field? Curious.

I asked it to myself as well. Figured it out, that I was escaping from unemployment. I got into a University that was overrated but coveted at the same time by liberal arts enthusiasts. Go figure. Batchmates were cool.
A part of me wanted to hone my creative writing, write manuscripts for sport after my "career" was sorted. Now I'm back to square one. I was deluded to have lofty ambitions. Unfortunate but I can't risk variables of miscellaneous expenses, low odds there's such thing as free housing. Teaching in east Asian countries was an option. I'll be working, shifting from one job to another until I'm 70 and die alone as a third class citizen, bankrupt/ little to no savings.

Hindustan Times, Indian Express and other legacy media are sure to downsize due to AI automation. Can expect a 60hr/week (minimum) for a foot in the door job in Tier 1 cities. Copy editor/ Proofreader-> Editorial (junior to senior) roles. Only the 1% thrives and the rest chokes. Of course, there won't be paid leaves. Higher ups couldn't care less, they will be sure to replace you the moment you are taking leaves for health and safety concerns implying you have lost your touch/ efficiency. You'll be back to job hunting and the longer it takes, the higher the gap in your CV is. (Gap in your CV means you are "damaged" according to Indian standards, idk how it's in foreign countries.)
It's mostly seen as a richfag's side hustle despite the job mandating a full time devotion. Yes career trajectory is decent but too much variables. Expect to live constantly on edge. My respect for those senior editors is immense. Sure it was easier before 2010, but current scenario where media houses will be even more desperate to cut costs because their investors are panicking. They won't say, "Oh, AI is a bubble, let's hire expensive humans again." They will say, "We are broke. Fire 20% of the staff and make the survivors use the cheap AI tools." Plus, I still would have lost the race against inflation by a mile if I got lucky i.e. hit big.
