How to prepare for 99.99+ percentile? I am currently in college second year and saw the high packages from top iims. Since I can sit for the exam only after graduation, assume two years of preparation is the time I am left with

I got 80 in 10th and 60 in 12th. Eligible for CAT and top IIMs after getting high scores? Reading Reddittiya threads shocked me after knowing that school percentage also matters.

Am I eligible or not? I just want to know this from any former aspirants. I don't want to create a account in plebbit and asking a question specially for this.

Complete eligibility and requirements for a General Category candidate to get into a top IIM (after CAT):

---

🎯 **1️⃣ Educational Qualification**

Bachelor’s degree* (any stream) from a recognized university.

At least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA* in graduation.

* Final-year students can apply (but must pass with 50% before joining).

---

🎯 **2️⃣ CAT Percentile (Minimum to Get Shortlisted)**

👉 To get shortlisted for WAT/PI at top IIMs, you typically need:

| IIM | Overall CAT percentile (General) | Sectional percentiles |

| ------------- | -------------------------------- | --------------------- |

| IIM Ahmedabad | 99+ | 70-80+ each section |

| IIM Bangalore | 99+ | 80+ each section |

| IIM Calcutta | 99+ | 80+ each section |

| IIM Lucknow | 98.5+ | 85+ each section |

| IIM Indore | 97-98+ | 80+ each section |

| IIM Kozhikode | 97-98+ | 80+ each section |

✅ Cutoffs vary slightly year to year, but 99+ is generally safe for IIM A, B, C if you're General category.

---

🎯 **3️⃣ Shortlisting Criteria**

Top IIMs shortlist based on:

CAT overall + sectional scores*

10th, 12th marks* — higher is better (many IIMs like A, B, C give weight here)

Graduation marks*

Work experience (optional, but adds weightage)*

Diversity (gender or academic background, e.g., non-engineers may get extra points)*

👉 Example:

* IIM A gives heavy weight to 10th/12th.

* IIM B emphasizes work experience and academics.

* IIM C focuses more on CAT score but still considers academics.

---

🎯 **4️⃣ WAT + PI (and sometimes GD)**

✅ After shortlisting, you must appear for:

Written Ability Test (WAT)* — an essay

Personal Interview (PI)* — most important for final selection

* (Rarely now) Group Discussion (GD)

Your performance here is critical — no matter how high your CAT score is!

---

🎯 **5️⃣ Final Selection Formula**

👉 Final score = weighted average of:

CAT score* (20-40%)

PI score* (30-50%)

WAT score* (10-20% where applicable)

10th / 12th / graduation marks*

Work experience (if any)*

Diversity factor (only if you’re non-engineer / female)*

---

🎯 **6️⃣ No age limit**

There is no age limit* for IIM admission.

---

🎯 **7️⃣ Documents needed**

* Graduation marksheets/certificate

* 10th / 12th marksheets

* CAT scorecard

* Work ex proof (if claiming experience)

---

✅ Summary for General Category

| Requirement | Minimum |

| ---------------- | ------------------------------------------------- |

| Graduation marks | 50% |

| CAT score | 98-99+ percentile |

| Sectional cutoff | \~80+ percentile |

| 10th / 12th | Higher is better (often >85% gets good weightage) |

| Work experience | Optional, but 1-3 years is beneficial |

| Age | No limit |

| WAT/PI | Must clear; PI is critical |

---

💡 If you'd like, I can generate:

* A table showing weightage for each component at IIM A, B, C

* A CAT percentile predictor for IIM calls (based on your profile)

👉 Just tell me! 🚀

Ig you are eligible

If you can afford it, get the IMS material their booklets cover all the essential conceptual questions, challenger-level problems, and previous CAT questions. Finish those thoroughly, then move to topic-wise PYQ books for deeper practice.

Mocks are crucial. Take as many as you can. Track your speed and accuracy CAT is all about smart question selection and time management.

If you're planning for XAT, start practicing Decision Making (DM) early. Also, brush up on basic aptitude especially for exams like SNAP, CMAT, CET focus on series, coding-decoding, arrangements, puzzles, clocks, calendars, PnC type stuff.

Stay informed. Read newspapers regularly. Try writing a weekly summary of what you learn (finance, IR, economy, biz, environment stuff bschools love). It improves both your knowledge and your profile.

Lastly brutal truth B-schools in India care about your past. If your 10th and 12th grades aren’t strong, be prepared for extra hurdles. They vet hard not just for aptitude, but also brand fit.
