I have no issues with census per se, data is better it gives us clearer picture on things.
The data accuracy of integrity would be better than most "NGO" 'surveys'.
Also government already had a set of data - either through adhar or from 2011 which is probably why BJP had better idea and decided to go with this. Though iirc 2011 also included caste level data so idk how things are different.
Regarding the fallout, bjp has decent chunk of voteshare from OBC community so they will not put entire obc in one bracket for attack.
What is most likely and in their interest is that they will play on finer print - breaking the cohesiveness of the OBC and Sc/St block which can be done through ways like

For what my Varna as a Brahman is worth, I will assure you while Vedas rank the highest when it comes to Aastika sect of Hinduism, it doesn't encompass entire Hinduism.
