He spared women, children, and the fathers of currently pregnant kshatranis. Some kshatriyas also hid in caves, rivers, etc.

You are mixing parshurams story with the origin myth of bhumihar caste. Bhumihars claim that when parshuram killed the rajas, their lands went vacant and parshuram gave those lands to poor brahmins, who came to be known as bhumihars.
Parshuram is also said to have been travelling along the konkan coast, and he wanted to perform a ritual, but couldnt find any pandits. So he took a bunch of fishermen shudras, taught them the vedas and brahminized them. These people are now chitpavan brahmins of maharashtra. This is folklore, not confirmed.
