Haryana was a semi arid region up until recently b4 green revolution, canals and urbanisation. It is the zone of separation between indus plain and gangetic plain. The region didnt have any significant well established kingdoms for much of its history. Thanesar(along yamuna) and bharatpur were the two exceptions. Jats were mainly pastoralists as large scale agriculture was not supported. Rice farming in particular was non existent. I think this also explains why punjabis of malwa region and haryanvis are so aggressive in my experience. Pastoralists in general are aggressive and martial across cultures. Just my 2 cents.

Jats of the haryana region never cared about handoism or religion, this hando identity is a much newer thing, I don't even think my great grandfather's generation ever used the word "hindu" to identify themselves.
