HAL has more experience, has assembled entire engines from source materials, has created UCAVs, taken expertise and developed LUH, prachand alh which can operate at peaks where 300mn gold plated apache shat the bed, Dhruv mk3 wsi, dhruv ng, they have designed and produced intermediate jet trainers, basic trainers so on.
HAL is not beyond its usual PSU related issues but tata and reliance etc. are beign shitted upon because they are pure streetshitter orgs who are going to do net zero r&D and worse they are going to kill any indigenous efforts because they will just do ckd assembly of foreign goods and call it a day.
everyone is bribed from top to bottom so everyone will praise it.
Tatashitters had C295 'tot' right, tell me how many such aircrafts they can build. Nil. This is how bad they are.

Also, to be fair you can't blame TATA / L&T / RELIANCE for not doing defence R&D. all the contracts used to go to DRDO/ HAL. If you were running TATA, would you invest in R&D when you know your not getting the contract?

this is true that indigenous system as a whole doesn't get valued by the mod and armed forces, there are countless private companies - bharat forge, sss, etc. even tata itself who have seen better success outside india than they have seen with so called indian armed forces.
but this case in particular is purely scene of just ckdshit. I have in particular hatred for tata because they are sepoycucks of the highest order - from IT to manufacturing they don't inspire confidence rather action of a trojan.

Your hate for tata is justified ig. But atleast in my experience during my work with TATA motors, their R&D is pretty good. Mahindra is actually better at R&D and uses money more efficiently. The biggest problem with TATA is not R&D but quality control.

interesting but until recently tata didn't even have a single in house engine iirc. worst they couldn't absorb any tech how to from jaguar maybe unti lrecently like a sepoy they are.

We know we can't match chinks in capability despite gorillion imports. What we need is quantity. We need 1000s of cheap, mass produced 4-4.5 gen fighters.
This strategy is impossible with imports. We'll go bankrupt trying to import again after 20 years since this deal basically kills lca mk2 and amca.
IAF isn't buying rafales out of panic or worry. They have deliberately created a situation like this so could get their shiny toys. DPM 2025 was extremely blackpilling.
