The average voter demographic for left and right in India is reverse to what it is in western liberal demographic in the sense middle class urban College graduate are more likely to vote BJP than poorer rural less less educated people who vote left.

They ARE intellectual. Problem is they're all readers. They read and read and read and they get good at reading something but they rarely do anything. Like me. All talk. No action. They fail because the things they read are not in touch with the things that are being done.
These people should actually get down on the streets and struggle with the minorities, LGBTQ+, poor, etc. and then speak from that experience. They won't. They're all upper class elite intellectuals who went to upper class elite schools and hang out with upper class elite people.

Personally been observing quite a lot of such people and its insane how LESS they read for how much they brag about it
As far as the whole south asia is concerned, unironic religious people (doesn't matter which) are actually the most prolific readers I've met, not your avg baba or mulla but actually humble and religiously aligned people living normal lives doing normal jobs.
