Indian and UP government was secular cuck which is inherently anti-hindu it was hindus when they came to power in slight manner started cleaning the river. Check how many STPs were built under namami gange. There's lots of propaganda against ganga river in general. Even in delhi, yamuna river is now seeing priority.
It is much cleaner but river flows through one of the most populated state, the media can cherry pick regions for propaganda. I have visited the ghats they pretty good.
One of the biggest issue with ganga river is that it has lots of dams, in summer river dries up due to those so you end up seeing stagnant water pockets which are pushed for propaganda.

There are multitude of problems. Ganga is dirty not due to people taking dip or even those cremations - that's issue to be taken care by unplanned ghats or non existing illegal ones.
So lots of people congested on unprepared ghats - lots of mud etc. obviously. But this was changed a lot.
Varanasi is now going development. Issue was there were few ghats now there's expansion. Now there are incinerators which make the process much better.
There's more focus on garbage collection and cleanup. This is ongoing process but much better in general.
The other bigger reason for pollution used to be directly industrial dumping, sewage directly flowing into rivers (yamuna in delhi for reference), this is where STP etc. matter. Most of the garbage comes from city where garbage collections were not focused properly until recently.
So there's multitude of problems which need solutions one by one.
At the end yes onus is on hindus to do better, but the admin or republic leaders until very recently were very apathetic to anything hindu. Only when you feel belonging to something you will try to improve things - bjp does so half assedly but they did improve situation.
And i think the biggest witness will be Yamuna river, eventual riverfront in delhi in particular. It will take a bit of time but hopefully one term is enough for that.

tropical/sub stropical forests, mighty river..so pristine and clean. stars in sky without any light pollution.

I havent watched the animu so can't tell how accurate to the source it ackshually is but so far i find it quite entertaining yaar.
I have also watched avatar last air bender cartoon which was really good. Its live action also came last year but it was quite boring and not as entertaining as the cartoon version of it.
One piece live action feels much better than avatar live action to me at least.

No i meant the varanasi ghats. my friend facetimed me from their ghats he was showing the rituals and whatnot but when I pointed out the river is not looking good, he was silent and later he said many of his elder family members were sick, but they took it as being purified and suffering because of sins which he himself said is bullshit. It was due to dirty river water.

the apathy towards ganga river was not a religious issue but a systematic issue lead by the failure of babus and governments. congress, sp, bsp were the dominant parties and all of them have been effectively apathetic towards hindu causes. it took bjp to reform the things slowly.
republic should revert to its dharmic core, i believe so because it would pave the way for people feeling more belonging to the society as a whole. when you consider yourself to be an extension of the society you would proactively see the changes.
currently a section of the government - only partly - say bjp is doing so, maybe a section of people a section of babus who are trying to solve the problem.
and most hindu temples are not in control of hindu institutions rather sub contracted to trusts - many a times the people in trust are not even hindu, the entire purpose of those trusts is to extact money for the government of India and so on which is later disbursed into anti hindu causes.
this is why privately managed temples or small temples are always better compared to state managed ones - example society temples, akshardhaam temple, iskon temples, local temples in general are much better.

Until unless dharmic consciousness among Indians increases you will see apathy like this, leftists hate their own self so they attack anything which defines the identity of Indians (hindus). Unless one truly starts to feel belonging to this place they can never be good for the nation or society. Previous government or people were less conscious less caring about it. Now things are changing.
