Nagas for example have nothing to do with it.
Ancestors of these tribes migrated (invaded..?) India long ago so it makes sense they saw the local ooga boggas with suspicion and hatred initially.
Another recent example - Ahoms of Assam came from Myanmar and BTFOd local Nagas, in there lore nagas are demons.
